For any one who runs a high street retail business the answer is a resounding YES!
So why don’t you have one yet?
We have all heard of the scary stories of web design companies making great pitches to clients and the client leaving the meeting being told he will need the latest Web 2.0 widget, flash graphics and BTW it will cost £70k and they then think an eCommerce website is too expensive.
So whats the answer? Do we have to spend £70k for an eCommerece website?
There are many ‘Open Source’ solutions for those not wanting to spend their children’s inheritance.
With Open Source you can have an online shop in a matter of minutes, but dont sack your web design company just yet….

Marks and Spencer Invest in the Future
Like so many high street retailers Marks and Spencer have seen a decline in turnover as the ‘Credit Crunch’ start to bite, but as the festive season approaches, Marks and Spencer anoucess a huge investment in their M&S Direct channel.
Marks and Spencer are spending £400m in technology and the online giants Amazon have teamed up with M&S to improve the navigation and search function, as well as increasing the range of products available online.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). With over 80% of consumers using search engines to locate your products and services, SEO has become a fundamental part of every business with a website.
Search Engine Optimisation companies are ‘popping up’ all over the place and many will promise you Number 1 on Google, MSN, Yahoo, but how will they get you there? Ethically? I shouldn’t think so.
No SEO Company shouldn’t promise anything, except to work hard on maximising the visibility of your site on search engine results.
